Promoting Health and Personal Development

The Purpose of this Program:

The program was developed to provide an organized way for all students to learn importantskills for life. It was discovered that students who received the LifeSkills Training program not only were better prepared to deal with the challenges of life, but were less likely to smoke, drink, or use drugs. The LifeSkills Training program is an exciting breakthrough which not only prevents tobacco, alcohol, and drug abuse, but provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to:

∙ Increase your self-esteem

∙ Increase your ability to make decisions and solve problems.

∙ Communicate effectively

∙ Avoid misunderstandings

∙ Manage anxiety and Stress

∙ Make new friends

∙ Stand up for your rights

∙ Resist advertising pressures

∙ Say NO to unfair requests

∙ Resist pressure to use drugs

∙ Handle bullying

The Life-Skills Training program is an integrated approach that develops personal, interpersonal, and drug resistance skills. The curriculum is designed to strengthen student abilities in the following areas:

∙ Personal Self-Management skills provides students with strategies for decision-making, managing stress, and anger.

∙ General Social Skills enables students to strengthen their communication skills and build healthy relationships.

∙ Drug Resistance Skills empowers students to understand the consequences of substance use, risk-taking, and the influences of the media.

∙ Social Media Skills enable students to understand the consequences of Bullying & Cyber bulling, which is sometimes referred to as online social cruelty or electronic bullying. LifeSkills empowers students to use social media in a positive and product manner.

The program is sponsored by Senator Katrina R. Jackson in the schools in East Carroll, Richland, Madison, Morehouse, and Ouachita parishes.
